Hidden House Coffee Roasters: This cozy little coffee shop is located in a “hidden” converted house (hence the name) and their coffee is equally as amazing as the ambiance! The baristas are friendly, knowledgeable, and talented. (@hiddenhousecoffee)

  • Bobby’s pick: Black Coffee

  • Alli’s pick: Almond Milk Chai

Breakfast

Ramos House Cafe: A breakfast experience quite like no other - especially if you can make their weekend brunch! Massive Bloody Mary’s, the most incredible Apple Cinnamon Beignets, and the prettiest outdoor patio. It’s two courses of decadence and picture-perfect presentation. Make sure you make a reservation in advance! (@ramoshousecafe)

  • Bobby’s pick: Wild Mushroom Mac n Cheese

  • Alli’s pick: B.L.F.G.T on Squaw with Rocket & Ranch

Bagel Shack: Sometimes we just crave a good bagel. The Bagel Shack NEVER disappoints with their wide variety of flavors and sandwiches. Order to-go and take them to the beach!

  • Our picks: Old Mans (it’s the best)

Ellie’s Table at Egan House: Our mouths are watering just THINKING about Ellie’s table. To die for pastries, sandwiches, coffee and more. But really… the baked goods are the main event. They’re heavenly. The lines can be long (especially on the weekend) but they move quick! (@elliestable)

  • Bobby’s pick: Chocolate Croissant

  • Alli’s pick: Cinnamon Roll

Lunch/Dinner

Sundried Tomato: This small “American Bistro” style restaurant is a perfect date-night spot. (We actually had one of our first dates at their old Laguna Beach location!) Quality food, great service, and an awesome “Social Hour” menu too (3-6:30pm daily)! (@sundriedtomatobistro)

  • Bobby’s pick: Buttermilk Fried Chicken Sandwich

  • Alli’s pick: Pasta-less Vegetarian Lasagna

Rancho Capistrano Winery: OC’s largest winery now has one of the best restaurants in San Juan Capistrano - with their rustic decor, extensive menu, and over 40 different varietals of wine. We love having a leisurely lunch on their patio! (@ranchocapistranowinery)

  • Bobby’s pick: Turkey Club

  • Alli’s pick: B.L.A.T.

El Adobe: This iconic Mexican establishment has been a SJC local staple since 1948! Not much has changed in 70 years, and we love the old school charm. Large portions, tasty margs, and killer tableside guacamole.

  • Bobby’s pick: Steak Fajitas

  • Alli’s pick: Enchiladas de Vegetables

Five Vines Wine Bar: We have all the feels for this cozy neighborhood wine bar. Partially because we love the people that run it, partially because their wine and small plates are incredible, and partially because Bobby worked there when we were dating! (@fivevineswinebar)

  • Our picks: Whatever the friendly folks behind the counter recommend ;)

Swallows Inn: There’s nothing fancy or refined about this old-school Western Bar. It’s our favorite kind of dive-bar. Live music, dancing, cheap drinks… it’s always a good time!

Docent Brewing: Located in an unassuming warehouse, you would never know this gem of a brewery even existed! (And we like that - so don’t tell too many people.) Great craft beer, good food, and an awesome laid-back atmosphere… It’s our new go-to spot! (@docentbrewing)

We’ll keep this one simple. Don’t stay in San Juan Capistrano - there are MUCH better options in other nearby towns… Our favorite spots are in Dana Point or Laguna Beach.

Mission San Juan Capistrano: Founded in 1776, it’s called the “Jewel” of the Missions, and it’s not to be missed. Open daily from 9-5, we suggest taking an audio tour (free with $10 admission) and exploring on your own. Bring your camera - the grounds are beautiful! (@missionsanjuancapistrano)

Cooking Class at Tspoons: If you’re looking for a fun, unique, and hands-on experience - this is it! Located in the heart of San Juan Capistrano, this classy and sophisticated cooking school has different themed classes nightly - they fill up quickly, so make sure to book in advance.

San Juan Capistrano isn’t as pet-friendly as other nearby cities like Laguna Beach - but there are still a handful of spots that will warmly welcome furry friends! Dogs are allowed in Docent Brewery, and the patio at Five Vines Wine Bar as well!
